The Children’s Place (TCP) provides intensive therapy and treatment for young children from birth to age eight, who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma. Delivering expert treatment to traumatized children since 1978, TCP works with more than 200 children and families each month. Programs include Day Treatment Services, Outpatient Treatment Services, and Parenting Support Services. Volunteers are an integral part of TCP. Below you will find listed some of the many ways you can become involved:
Volunteers 16 and older can assist teachers in our Day Treatment Services program weekday mornings (8:40 - Noon) with children in a classroom setting. You will assist two teachers with all of the morning activities including meals. To be considered for this position you must be available weekly for the entire summer. This commitment is essential for the children you will be working with.
Volunteers 15 and older are needed for our Interactive Play Area. Children in our Outpatient Treatment Services program benefit from having a volunteer keep them company while their caregiver visits with the therapist, prior to the child’s session. This position requires a minimum two-hour, weekly commitment. Volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Volunteers 14 and older are needed weekday mornings (10:00 – 11:30) for 6 weeks beginning in July, to assist children from the Day Treatment Services program with the Summer Swim program. Private pools are used and all are within a 10-minute drive from The Children’s Place. Students participate in this program as a swim buddy and provide their own transportation to and from the pool. This is a fun activity and we just ask that you interact in the pool with the children. Life jackets are provided for the children and the teachers are CPR certified and oversee the activities. (Note: Volunteer schedule is full)
Agency Requirements: Age requirements as listed above for each position, Volunteer Application Packet, Negative results of a TB skin test, completed within the last year, Volunteer Orientation and Transportation.
Skills Required: Enjoy Working with Young Children, Patience, Flexibility, Sense of Humor, Maturity, Ability to Accept Supervision, and Comfortable In and Around Water (Summer Swim only).
Become a Back to School Buddy!
Before the first school bell rings this fall, your help is needed. Each year, children receiving services from the agency, who will be transitioning to traditional schools in the fall, are matched with sponsors who agree to provide them with: 2 new outfits of school clothing, a backpack, and school supplies. Your kindness and generosity will show these children that they matter to someone and help them start the school year with their heads held high and a spring in their step. If you are interested in becoming a Back to School Buddy for this fall, please sign-up here by Wednesday, July 14, 2010.
