HEALING FROM COMPLEX TRAUMA TAKES MORE THAN JUST EXPERT TREATMENT AND THERAPY, IT ALSO TAKES THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF CARING, SAFE ADULTS. Volunteers are an essential part of the daily activities at The Children’s Place.  Individuals, families, corporations, and community groups are needed to give their time and talents to support our mission.  Once a week, once a month or once a year – the time you have to give is invaluable to a young child who is hurting.

If you are interested in learning more about what we do, we offer tours on the first Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m.  Please email Amy Wickstrom, Vice President of Development, wickstroma@tcpkc.org to confirm your attendance on the tour!

Classroom Volunteers

Morning Classroom
Individuals are needed to serve as classroom assistants in the Day Treatment Services program. Volunteers spend one morning each week from 8:45 a.m. to Noon working directly with our children. The hands-on commitment of caring volunteers enables us to provide each and every child in the program with the maximum amount of much needed stimulation, guidance, nurturing, and love.

Afternoon Classroom
Individuals are needed to serve as classroom assistants in the Day Treatment Services program one afternoon per week from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Volunteers will work directly with the teachers and the children helping wake up from nap, helping with snacks, afternoon activities and preparing to leave for the day.

If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, please contact Amy Wickstrom, our Vice President of Development at wickstroma@tcpkc.org or 816-363-1898.

Groups & Families

Service/Work Day:

We are happy to provide service and work day opportunities for school, church, company or family groups. Given the time of year there are many projects that can be undertaken. Group sizes are restricted to 30 or less – but we can make exceptions as needed.

Food Drive:

Every Friday backpacks of food go home to many of the children and families that are in our Day Treatment Services program. Food insecurity has increased dramatically recently and our goal is to ensure that our children are able to have food over the weekend if they are in need. Food drives help keep our pantry stocked and help ensure no child goes hungry. Check out our Snack Pack shopping list to see how you can help.  View list ›

Supply Drive:

The Children’s Place relies on the generous donations from our community to provide the many items we need to make the work we do possible. From classroom supplies to therapeutic needs all help us meet the needs of the many children and families we serve on a daily basis. Check out our supply list to see how you can help. View list ›

Gift Card Drive:

For many of the children and families we serve, often the basic day to day needs of food, gas, shoes, basic clothing are difficult to manage. Often times the lack of these basics impede their ability to receive serves here at The Children’s Place. To help ensure children have what they need and more importantly have access to our services we often are in need of gift cards to QuikTrip, local grocery stores, Target, Walmart, Walgreens to help supplement the needs of the families.

If you are looking for a way to help, organize a gift card drive, gift cards in small denominations are always greatly appreciated.

For additional information on ways your group can help, please contact our Vice President of Development, Amy Wickstrom at wickstroma@tcpkc.org or 816-363-1898.

Summer & Support

Summer:

Individuals are needed to assist teachers in our Day Treatment Services program weekday mornings from 8:45 – Noon with children in a classroom setting during summer (June – August). You will assist two teachers with all of the morning activities including meals. To be considered for this position you must be available weekly for the entire summer. This commitment is essential for the children you will be working with.

Summer Swim:

Individuals 14+ years are needed weekday mornings for a six-week period beginning in early July from 10:00 – 11:30 to assist children from the Day Treatment Services program with the Summer Swim program. Private pools are used and all are within a 10-minute drive from The Children’s Place. Students participate in this program as a swim buddy and provide their own transportation to and from the pool. This is a fun activity and we just ask that you interact in the pool with the children. Life jackets are provided for the children and the teachers are CPR certified and oversee the activities.

General Support:

Individuals are needed to support the various programs of The Children’s Place. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity and being in a classroom is not your desire, we have many areas where you help could make a difference.

TCP Ambassador:

Individuals are needed to support the many activities of the Resource Development team. Many times The Children’s Place is asked to staff a table at volunteer fairs, community service fairs and we are looking for help! If you have access to a vehicle, are happy to talk to people and share information about The Children’s Place we need your help. We will provide extensive training on all programs offered.
