The Day Treatment Program is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary program created for children, ages two weeks to six years. A unique, therapeutic classroom setting offers an environment that is stable, safe, and nurturing. Each child receives an individualized program of speech and occupational therapy, nutritional assessment, psychological/psychiatric evaluations and diagnosis, play therapy and socialization, counseling, and education. In addition, the program provides for some of the physical needs of the children. They receive a healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks throughout the day.
The majority of children who attend the Day Treatment Program are referred through the Children’s Service Workers at the Children’s Division. However, some children may be referred by other social service or mental health professionals, or by area daycare and preschool programs.
To qualify for the program, a child must demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Developmental delays
- Significant behavior problems
- Problems resulting from pre-natal exposure to drugs or alcohol
The Day Treatment Program team consists of full-time lead teachers and assistants, licensed Masters level clinical social workers and counselors, occupational therapist, speech therapist, and consulting child psychiatrist. Upon entering the program, each child is assigned a Child and Family Therapist who coordinates the services of the entire staff to best serve the child’s individual needs.
