Mental Health Services for Children Who Have Experienced Traumatic Events

The Children’s Place offers four distinct programs to provide a holistic continuum of care for young children. Our multidisciplinary approach to healing makes it possible for children to heal from their traumatic experiences. We invite you to learn more about our programs below and contact us to learn which might be the best fit for your child.

Assessments & Screenings

Experiencing traumatic stress early in life can negatively impact the development of the young brain. To ensure early identification and interventions, the diagnostic team offers developmental and behavioral screenings for children 6 weeks through 6 years old.

Counseling Center

During weekly appointments, our highly-skilled therapists offer individual or family therapy for children ages one to eight who have experienced life’s biggest hurts. Children learn how to process and cope with the big feelings which typically occur when navigating the hurts of loss, divorce, accidents, abuse or any of life’s hardships.

Family Support

Caring for a child who has experienced traumatic events is hard work. Through caregiver groups and individualized parenting services, adults receive encouragement and education to raise happy and healthy children.

Day Treatment

Designed to address the whole child, this daily program incorporates mental health therapy in an early educational environment. Children receive mental health, social-emotional, developmental and educational services so they can thrive in a traditional classroom setting or daycare.

Training

The Children’s Place is a local and national leader in children’s mental health and trauma-responsive care, and we regularly share our expertise through trainings at local school, businesses and organizations.

We Are Here to Help

We encourage anyone with a hurt—physical, emotional or relational—to seek help. The Children’s Place is here to walk alongside children and families as they heal from traumatic events as Kansas City’s specialized trauma treatment center serving the mental health needs of young children.
