What should I do if I think a child is being abused or neglected?
If you and the child live in Missouri, call 1-800-382-0229. If you live outside of Missouri but the child lives in Missouri, call 1-573-751-3448. For information about reporting in other states, contact 1-800-422- 4453. If you believe a child is in immediate danger, please contact local law enforcement.
What should I do if a child discloses they have been abused?
If A Child Discloses Abuse/Neglect To You:
- Allow the child to tell their story in their own words
- Ask for clarification to be sure you understand
- Restate back to the child to be sure you understood
- Do not ask leading questions
- Do not show a strong emotional reaction in front of the child such as crying, anger, etc
- Reassure the child that you are glad they told, that it is not their fault and that you believe them
- Report suspicions or disclosures to the proper authorities
How can I tell if my child is developmentally delayed?
All children develop at their own rate and you should consult your pediatrician about specific concerns you might have. For specific information on normal child development click here.
If I am interested in my child receiving services from The Children’s Place, what should I do?
