Traumatized young children at The Children’s Place are blessed with their very own angels. Every April, the Angels of The Children’s Place host the annual fundraiser to support the children and families served by agency. On April 9, 2008, the 7th Annual Luncheon reached record attendance with close to 800 guests at the Kansas City Downtown Marriott in the Muehlebach Tower.
President of the Angels Karen Bullard, Event Chair Carol Crowe and the full Angels’ board provided a beautiful event and inspiring speaker for this year’s guests. The agency was pleased to recognize and thank its ‘Honorary Heroes”, volunteers who have given 20 or more years of dedicated service:
Dee Binda (22 years) Susan Sinclair (23 years)
Paget Higgins (20 years) Cozette Spurney (23 years)
Ann McShane (22 years) Janet Warren (27 years)
Liz Murray, this year’s speaker, shared her story of survival as the child of homeless, drug-addicted parents in the Bronx, New York. There were tears in the eyes of many guests, deeply touched by Liz’s story and inspired by her passion to help other children who have suffered abuse and neglect. Liz’s story was made into a Lifetime movie, Homeless to Harvard.
Liz acknowledged and paid great thanks to the angels who came into her life, giving her the support and caring that she needed to be able to change her life. In that spirit, we thank our Angels and all of our luncheon supporters. Because of our community’s support and commitment, young lives are being changed and brighter futures are possible.
