- 9,656 children in foster care
- 1,229 children in state custody in Jackson, Clay and Platte counties combined
- 4,539 children in alternative care in Jackson, Clay and Platte counties combined
- In the month of July 2007, approximately 1,000 child abuse/neglect hotline calls were made
- 189 children in the custody of the Children’s Division had been in 6-10 placements

- Kansas City, KS Metro area received 13,328 reports for children in need of care, which was 25% of the total state (average 36 reports a day)

- 3,619 reports in Wyandotte County
- Of the total maltreatment reports, 33% were for physical abuse, 10% were for sexual abuse, 18% were for emotional abuse and 19% were for lack of supervision
