Please join TCP in welcoming our new Director of Clinical Services, Lori Meyer. Lori, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Masters Degree from UMKC in Marriage and Family Therapy, brings 20 years of diverse clinical experience with children and families to the agency.
Lori was drawn to TCP by its outstanding clinical reputation among mental health professionals and the opportunity it offered to focus on very young children. Her professional experience has led her to believe, as did TCP’s founders, “that the younger children are when we intervene, the better chance they have for success.” As the person responsible for the agency’s clinical direction, Lori is pleased with TCP’s commitment to clinical excellence. Implementation of new treatment models often comes slowly in the mental health field. Lori is excited that this is not the case for TCP. With its goal for clinical excellence for clients, TCP has been a leader in Kansas City in the provision of the newest evidence based interventions.
The caliber of the agency’s clinical staff is something that Lori appreciates. She describes the therapists as “a strong, well trained team, committed to helping traumatized kids.” Though they hear heartbreaking stories from innocent children, the therapists are able to see their young clients achieve positive change. For the clinical team, it is very satisfying to stabilize families and help reduce barriers to healthy child development.
Lori has been impressed with the community support that TCP receives. In addition to individual donations and foundation gifts, public funding such as the Jackson County Community Mental Health Fund and The Federal Victims of Crime Act provide needed support to children and families. By letting our elected officials know that funding for services such as TCP’s is important, we can work to ensure the continuation of these services. This is one more way that each of us can help vulnerable children overcome their traumas and begin to heal.
